Republican strategists, who are well aware of Stacey Abrams‘ prowess by now, are getting a head start on their attempt to stop the activist’s potential bid for governor of Georgia in 2022, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported

“After losing the White House and United States Senate in 2020, grassroots Republicans across Georgia and America are standing together to stop radical Stacey Abrams,” said Jeremy Brand, senior strategist of the “Stop Stacey” effort. “We will do whatever it takes to expose Stacey Abrams’ radical network, highlight her dangerous agenda and ultimately defeat her — and her left-wing candidates — at the ballot box.”

The Republicans’ outrage comes after Abrams played a key role in flipping the traditionally conservative state of Georgia, going door-to-door to make sure people are registered to vote and speaking at dozens of events to educate the public about policies.

Having already suffered devastating defeats during the election, conservatives said they are now trying to “prevent a complete left-wing takeover of Georgia.”

While the new campaign focuses on Abrams, a recent poll indicates that Gov. Brian Kemp‘s approval rating among Republican voters is on the decline. More than a third of Republican voters disapprove of Kemp’s performance as governor, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported. In contrast, 51 percent of Georgians said they approve of Abrams.

Kemp’s supporters joined former Sen. Kelly Loeffler to launch the latest plan against Abrams, who still hasn’t announced whether she will run for governor. The Republicans plan to build a national fundraising campaign, mobilize conservative supporters, launch anti-Abrams ads and promote media narratives.

“She ‘flipped’ Georgia for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. She delivered two Senate seats for Chuck Schumer. Now, she’s aiming for total control,” the group states on its website. “We have to Stop Stacey and Save America before it’s too late!”

Kemp said he feels confident about his campaign.

“I plan on running in 2022. I’m not worried about any kind of primary fight. We’ll be victorious. I personally think it’s unnecessary,” he told the AJC. “I hope at the end of the day people come our way, but if they don’t, we’ll get them back after a potential primary.”

Abrams has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, Blavity previously reported. Lars Haltbrekken, a member of Norway’s parliament who nominated the former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, said Abrams’ work follows in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s footsteps.

“Abrams’ efforts to complete King’s work are crucial if the United States of America shall succeed in its effort to create fraternity between all its peoples and a peaceful and just society,” Haltbrekken said.

Abrams has yet to confirm whether or not she intends to run for governor again. However, sources close to Abrams feel strongly that she’s up for round two.

“Stacey Abrams intends to run for governor again,” said Wendy Davis, a Democratic National Committee member who is on the executive committee of the Georgia Democratic Party, to the Daily Beast. “I think that is a secret to no one.”

The voting rights activist, who lost her bid for governor in 2018, would face Kemp in an election rematch if she decides to run again.
